Virtual Program: The Whole World Is Watching — Stories from the Front Line

On May 8, 2024, in anticipation of the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, CFA presented four short films from The Film Group Collection. Selected from The Urban Crisis and the New Militants series, these films are raw cinema-verite expressions of the protests and police violence that ensued at the ’68 DNC. They pose questions about the society we lived in then – and how they resonate in our society today.

Hosted by the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events in the Claudia Cassidy Theater, CFA presented a film program enhanced by a post-screening conversation among noted veteran journalists and activists who were at the DNC in 1968.  Zayd Ayers Dohrn guided the conversation that unfolded between veteran journalist, Don Rose; Gordon Quinn, Co-founder and Sr. Advisor at Kartemquin Films; Don Johnson, Journalist at Newsweek Magazine; and Bill Ayers, an activist with the Students For a Democratic Society.
