MLK: An Amazing Grace

February 23, 2013 at 6pm

The Black Cinema House presents a CFA’s print of MARTIN LUTHER KING: AN AMAZING GRACE, the only black-produced documentary on the iconic civil rights leader. This 1978 film provides a historical overview of Dr. King’s life, with excerpts from his most famous speeches. It also features interviews on Dr. King’s legacy with such notable figures as Stokely Carmichael and Rev. Jesse Jackson. Produced by seven-time Emmy-winning TV host Gil Noble, this is a slice of history both on screen and behind the scenes.

And as a special treat, the Black Cinema House will be showing an ultra-rare 16mm print of a 1972 interview with Angela Davis, who stopped by Malcolm X College during her presidential campaign for a conversation with fiery journalism pioneer Lutrelle “Lu” Palmer. It’s entirely possible that no one has seen this 20-minute film since it was made.
