Black History Month HOME MOVIE DAY

February 1, 2014 at 1pm

Come out and celebrate African American History Month as the Chicago Public Library presents Home Movie Day, honoring the late Congressman Ralph H. Metcalfe as well as home movies shot on the south side of Chicago. The free event takes place on Saturday, February 1, at 1 p.m. at the Hall Branch Library, 4801 S. Michigan Ave.

Presented in association with DuSable Museum of African American History, Chicago Film Archives, South Side Home Movie Project at University of Chicago, The Forum and the Metcalfe Collection, the program features digitized home movies of the Congressman and family that were presented to the Library by Ralph Metcalfe Jr. The program will also feature highlights from the Chicago Film Archives’ Don Mcilvaine Collection, which features home movies from the famed Chicago muralist Don Mcllvaine (1930-2005).

In addition, participants are invited to drop off their 8mm, Super 8mm or 16mm home movies at the Hall Branch, now through January 24, so they can be digitized by the Chicago Film Archives for screening at the Home Movie Day event. For more information please contact the Chicago Film Archives at 312-243-1808.
