Abstract
Footage depicting the "Made With Paper" exhibit at the St. Louis Museum of Art in 1968. The exhibit was produced by the Container Corporation of America and the American Craftsmen's Council.
Description
Begins with scenes of schoolchildren waiting to enter the exhibition space. The camera zooms in and out on visitors interacting with the displays. Shots of visitors' feet show that no one is wearing shoes -- instead, they walk over the glass floor display in socks or provided slippers (which appear to be made out of paper). From a bird's-eye view, the camera reveals that the floor consists of glass-covered structures of molded paper cones, fiber cans, honeycomb and other corrugated paperboards, variously manipulated and glued to form patterns. The modular floor units were designed by Robert and William Kaulfuss under the direction of John Massey, Center for Advanced Research in Design at Container Corporation of America.
The film then shows two women inspecting several dresses which have been constructed out of paper. The film concludes with close up views of hanging paper constructions on display.
