Abstract
This home movie collection was donated by the Wilmette Historical Museum in 2009 and documents the Grove Family from this northern suburb. The four reels were shot by Axel Grove between 1959-1963 and include footage of the Brookfield Zoo, O’Hare International Airport, the Morton Arboretum, Adventure Island Amusement Park, a trip to Wilmette’s beaches, a child’s tennis lesson and a very entertaining living room puppet show.
Custodial History
The films in this collection were created by Axel Grove of Wilmette, Illinois. The films histories are unknown from the time of their creation until October 2007. At this time, Patrick Leary, curator at the Wilmette Historical Museum, acquired the films from an eBay dealer named Monty Lutz. Mr. Lutz donated the films to the museum after Mr.Leary explained the nature of his interest in the films as a staff and board member at the Wilmette Historical Society. Mr. Leary kept three reels, donated four reels to CFA, and discarded the rest (number unknown). Mr. Leary contacted Mr. Grove

This collection is open to on-site access. Appointments must be made with Chicago Film Archives. Due to the fragile nature of the films, only video copies will be provided for on-site viewing.
